The Platypus Pool and Wet Area Wheelchair, designed and manufactured in Australia by Para Mobility, are lightweight, rustproof, self-propelled wheelchairs designed to be fully immersed in salt, chlorinated or fresh water.

The ‘Platypus’ model is used on the ground and ramps while the ‘Pelican’ model includes a lifting frame and straps to be used in conjunction with the Pelican Pool Hoist.

They are lightweight and made from quality furniture grade PVC, which will not absorb the heat if left out in the sun, thus preventing accidental burns, while the strong open weave fabric allows passage of air and water.

The chairs have solid tyres which never go flat and are ideal for leisure centres, hydrotherapy pools, showering and outdoor environments. The Pelican and Platypus Pool and Wet Area Chair has been designed for comfort, safety and practicality, and are easily and safely self-propelled.

The wheels are equipped with hand brakes on each side of the wheelchair for maximum safety and control. The brakes are strategically positioned to allow carers easy access, at hip height, when activating them.

An option is available for the aquatic wheelchair to be user controlled giving them direct access and independence.

The Pelican Pool and Wet Area Wheelchair comes fitted with a lifting frame and straps making it suitable for use on our Pelican Pool and Spa Hoist. When used together with the hoist the aquatic wheelchair can be lifted in and out of the pool for ease of entry and exit.
