How Does The Recording of Blood Pressure Work Using This Device?
The method is similar to manual Doppler-based blood pressure measurement:
1. Prepare the site (clip or damp down fur, use alcohol or warm soapy water, apply ultrasound gel).
2. Place the cuff appropriately (sized so bladder width is 30-40% of limb circumference) and locate the artery with the probe.
3. Inflate the cuff until Doppler signal disappears, then slowly deflate. The pressure at which blood flow returns (or Doppler signal resumes) corresponds to systolic pressure.
4. With training, the diastolic can also sometimes be determined by change in sound tone.

How Long Does It Take To Get A Reading?
With practice and good technique, readings can be obtained in less than a minute. However, patient cooperation, proper cuff size and placement, and a calm environment all impact the speed and accuracy.

Is This Suitable For Both Anaesthesia Monitoring & Conscious Patients?
Yes, the manufacturer indicates the CAT+ Doppler can be used to monitor pulse quality during anaesthesia (i.e. seeing/hearing the pulse signal) and is thus useful both for conscious blood pressure evaluation (e.g., feline hypertension screening) and intra-operative monitoring.
