Indigo Care & Aged Care Fall Management Solutions: Wired & Wireless Fall Prevention Equipment

Effective fall management solutions are crucial for enhancing safety and reducing injury risks, especially in environments like hospitals and health & aged care facilities.

In Aged Care facilities, effective fall management is crucial for the safety and wellbeing of elderly residents. Falls pose a significant risk due to the potential for serious injuries and diminished quality of life. The risk increases when residents spend extended periods alone in their rooms. Indigo Care offers a range of Nurse Call and Wired & Wireless Fall Prevention equipment designed to alert staff to potential falls. This early warning system allows staff to intervene quickly, helping to prevent injuries. To manage and prevent falls effectively, it's essential to monitor and address various aspects of the resident's room, identifying and reducing potential risks.

Resident rooms play a vital role in fall management. Ensuring that these rooms are well-lit and free from tripping hazards is crucial. The placement of Nurse Call Bell Pendants and other assistive devices should be easily accessible to residents. Indigo Care's Nurse Call Bell Pendants feature a standard cord length of 3 meters, keeping them close to the bedside. Our Wireless Fall Prevention Equipment eliminates the need for additional wires and leads, reducing the risk of trip hazards and enhancing resident safety. Regular checks should be conducted to ensure that the Wired & Wireless Fall Prevention equipment is properly installed and functioning.

Several key locations within a room can be monitored to improve fall management and protect residents. The equipment aims to provide staff with an early warning of potential falls, creating a safer environment for the resident.

Wired & Wireless Fall Prevention Equipment:

Beds:

The most common place to monitor a resident is their bed. You can use Indigo Care’s Bed Sensor Mat by placing it under the bed sheets, or our Under Mattress Sensor Mat by placing it under the mattress. Both mats can connect either wired to a monitor or wirelessly to our Wireless Receiver. When the resident moves or rises and the sensor mat detects a loss of pressure, it sends a message to the wireless receiver. This triggers the nurse call system to alert staff to the potential for a fall before it occurs.

Alternatively, you can monitor the resident’s movement using our PIR Motion Sensors. Place these sensors on one or both sides of the bed. The PIR Motion Sensor comes in both wired and wireless options.

Chairs:

Most residents will spend a significant amount of the daytime sitting upright in their chairs.  The resident's movement can be monitored by using a chair size sensor mat.  Indigo Care’s Wired or Wireless Chair Sensor Mat Kits are a perfect solution for use in your resident’s room.

Wheelchairs:

Indigo Care’s Fall Alarm Monitor & Wireless Transmitter along with a chair sensor mat can be used with a wheelchair, for easier standalone monitoring. The Monitor with a nurse call lead can connect direct to your nurse call system if needed.

The Floor:

Floor Sensor Mats are placed on the floor alongside the bed to alert staff when a resident places their feet on the floor sensor mat. Indigo Care’s PVC Floor Sensor Mats have a length of 122 cm and are available as Wired or Wireless. These mats can also be placed near doorways to alert staff when the resident leaves the room.

The Bathroom:

Bathrooms are high-risk areas for falls due to the combination of wet surfaces and slippery floors. Indigo Care’s Cordless Devices, Neck Pendant, Wrist Pendant and PIR Motion Sensor are effective in checking on an unassisted entry or exit from a bathroom.

Doors:

Making sure the resident’s movements, outside of their room, is known is another way to help prevent falls. Indigo Care’s Doorway Sensor, placed on the door frame, will alert staff when the resident’s door has been opened.

Lastly, our PIR Motion Sensors can be placed in many unique locations around doorways or in the room in general, to monitor the movement of the resident. The PIR Motion Sensor is available as a Wired or Wireless sensor.

To create a safer environment for residents and significantly reduce fall risks, aged care facilities must focus on key areas and implement comprehensive monitoring and preventive measures. Proactive management and regular assessments are essential for ensuring the effectiveness of fall prevention strategies and responsiveness to residents' needs.
